This is an exciting opportunity to join the newly formed Bath Mental Health Research Group (MHRG) at the University of Bath. The MHRG is funded for an initial 5 years by the NIHR (National Institute for Health Research). The focus of our work is applied research aged 12-25 aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of children and young people in the local region.

This post builds on our previous findings (Cozier et al., 2025, Addiction) showing that approximately one in six vapes seized in English schools contained synthetic cannabinoids or ‘Spice’.

This post will support further drug testing work, with a particular focus on our local region, emerging drug trends, and the development of interventions.

We have a clear commitment to skills training and career development for all research staff in the MHRG. You will work under the supervision of world-leading clinicians and academics. The Bath MHRG is partnering with the Universities of Bristol and Exeter (as part of the GW4 network) to deliver this project and there may be opportunities to work with researchers at partner institutions. You will also have opportunities to receive further research training (e.g., in PPIE or good clinical practice).

Our partnering, charity UK SMART Recovery, provides free, science-based, weekly mutual-aid support for 5000 people recovering from addictive behaviours. This Accelerated Knowledge Transfer Partnership will carry out a process evaluation of an intensive recovery event which innovatively combines SMART principles with equine therapy, over the course of two weekends.

Your main duties and responsibilities will include:

1. Liaise with our knowledge exchange partners and recruit participants.
2. Conduct in-depth interviews in person across the UK or online.
3. Ensure the accuracy of digital transcripts and conduct thematic analyses of these.
4. Lead on disseminating findings in formats that are (i) useful for UK SMART Recovery and (ii) contribute new knowledge to the field.   

Additionally, it will explore systematically with a variety of stakeholders the feasibility of integrating SMART principles into intensive recovery events, providing a codified framework and toolkit to the charity, in support of future similar endeavors. In so doing, it will create a repeatable operational model to broaden the support UKSR offers and to partner with other organisations in therapeutic delivery.

The University of Houston Tillman J Fertitta Family College of Medicine (UHCOM) announces a post-doctoral research fellowship in the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences. The position is available beginning September 1, 2025 or after to work with James H. Bray, PhD in his Family Health Laboratory and other BSS faculty. The FH Lab investigates family and developmental factors that influence adult, child and adolescent adjustment, behavioral problems, alcohol and substance abuse, and health. In addition, the lab develops and evaluates prevention and intervention methods that promote healthy behaviors and ameliorate problem behaviors and substance use in family and school settings. The lab is currently using AI to develop apps for evaluation and intervention for substance use problems in collaboration with computer scientists.

Post doc is expected to work full-time for one year, with possible extension to two years. Post doc will help Dr. Bray manage his laboratory, conduct new studies, conduct analyses of existing databases and help prepare grant applications for future funding. Post doc will help with laboratory development, organization and training. Post doc will also help supervise students and other trainees.

Post doc needs to have advanced data analytic skills including structural equation modeling, growth curve modeling, and longitudinal data analyses (using MPlus) and be interested in applying those to existing data sets. The Department of Family & Consumer Studies (FCS) at the University of Utah seeks a master’s or Ph.D.-level professional to join our department as a full-time, 9-month, career-line teaching faculty member at the rank of Lecturer (for candidates with a master’s degree) or Assistant Professor (Lecturer) for candidates with a PhD. The Ontario Tobacco Research Unit (OTRU) was established in 1993 as the research and evaluation component of the Ontario Tobacco Strategy. Over three decades, OTRU has become a key player in the tobacco control community in Canada and internationally. OTRU is located within the Institute of Mental Health Policy Research (IMHPR) at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). This objective is achieved by developing tools to assist policymakers in the design, implementation and monitoring of drug policies, creating protocols, standard operating procedures and guidance, as well as responding to requests from EUDA customers, including policymakers.

Each year the Report provides an overview of the world drug situation with regard to the illicit cultivation and production of drugs, as well as their trafficking and use; it also includes thematic chapters that highlight an area of interest from a research and policy perspective. The World Drug Report is produced by the Research and Trend Analysis Branch, with the Research and Knowledge Production Section in the lead and involvement of expert staff across the Branch and in other Branches/Divisions across UNODC. The purpose of the assignment is to produce an analysis of global and regional trends in drug demand and health consequences for the World Drug Report and contribute to its integration into the 2026 edition. This consultancy will be home-based. The consultant will work under the overall guidance of the Chief of the Research and Knowledge Production Section, and under the supervision of the Statistician on drugs in the Data, Analytics and Statistics Section, and in close collaboration with other colleagues from the Research and Trend Analysis Branch, Division of Policy Analysis (DPA). The output of the consultancy will aim at presenting the current situation and trends regarding drug use and health consequences both at the global and regional levels as well as contributing to analysis of the latest developments.

UTHealth Houston's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences' Center for Neurobehavioral Research on Addiction (CNRA) is looking to hire a research assistant to support studies dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of substance use disorders. Our team is dynamic and multidisciplinary, where you will get to work with experts from fields such as addiction psychiatry, psychology, medicine, counseling, nursing, pharmacy, and research.

Position Summary:

Under close direction of senior research staff, conducts activities to support research projects.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1. Under close supervision, conducts research activities according to research protocol. Research activities may include some or all of the following: patient recruiting and screening, traditional laboratory experiments and activities, informatics, field interviewer recruiting, screening and training and/or animal laboratories. 
2. May maintain clean laboratory equipment and/or work area to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
3. Collects, evaluates, and interprets research data to provide needed information to principal investigators and other researchers. Updates notebooks, records, and databases as needed.
4. Stays abreast of new and updated protocols for research department.
5. Orders laboratory and/or other supplies as directed by senior research staff.
6. As needed, may coordinate the work of laboratory technicians and assistants to ensure efficient, timely and high quality results.
7. Complies with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulations, and codes.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

The Medical Research Council (MRC) has recently funded a Four-year, £1.5M cohort study, that is studying the impact of e-cigarettes on immune and epithelial cells within the lungs of smokers trying to quit using e-cigarettes. 

Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death worldwide, and a risk factor for many diseases. With an ageing population, the profound economic and health burden of smoking-related disease continues to increase. E-cigarettes are an effective, NICE recommended smoking cessation tool yet the long-term effects of vaping remain uncertain. Our short-term exposure studies have shown the deleterious effects of e-cigarette exposure on innate immune cell function (neutrophils, alveolar macrophages), suggesting potential harm from chronic exposure. 

This project aims to address this knowledge gap by recruiting a cohort of healthy smokers aiming to quit smoking using e-cigarettes, to provide critical data needed to determine safety and to inform personal choice, public debate, and policy. This longitudinal cohort study will evaluate accumulation of toxins in the airways, changes in epithelial and innate immune cell functions during smoking cessation, by combining a multi-omic approach with whole-cell effector functions and characterise changes in the respiratory microbiome. 

This post will require the Research Fellow to work closely with clinical scientists to deliver this cohort study within the laboratory of Dr Aaron Scott. The Research Fellow will contribute to the creation of knowledge by undertaking a specified range of activities within this research project. 

Role Summary

• Work within specified research grants and projects, specifically an ongoing research project that is investigating how immune cells are change after smoking cessation and how they are affected by continued exposure to e-cigarettes.
• Operate within area of specialism, specifically supporting the work undertaken by Dr Scott that is investigating the impact of the exposome (smoke, e-cigarette vapour, pollution) on respiratory immune health.
• Integrate with clinical team to deliver a patient cohort study, including appropriate record keeping. 
• Analyse and interpret research findings and results. 
• Contribute to public understanding of the discipline.
• Contribute to generating funding
