Mental Health Conference & Excursion – Kigali, Rwanda

ISSUP Kenya participates in a Mental Health Conference & Excursion in Rwanda. The event was co-organised by ISSUP-KENYA and Mshauri Therapy Hub and Pro Care. 

The conference officially started in Kigali on 6th May 2025, under the theme “Trauma Healing.”

The recently concluded Mental Health Conference & Excursion, founded and hosted by ProCare Counselors and Mediators, ISSUP -KENYA was honoured to partner in this timely gathering focused on the theme of trauma healing — a shared regional priority, brought together a diverse group of mental health professionals, advocates, and practitioners from across Africa.

Participants engaged with sessions addressing trauma’s deep impact on individuals and communities, and explored practical strategies for healing and recovery, especially within the context of mental health care and substance use prevention.

Key speakers included Dr. Pamela Kaithuru (President, ISSUP Kenya), Dr. Susan Gitau, Prof. Nathan Chiroma, Jane Gatete, and Rev. Dr. Nagaju Muke, among others. The presence of a representative from the Kenyan High Commission in Rwanda reinforced the importance of inter-country collaboration on mental wellbeing.

As ISSUP Kenya, we remain committed to building strong, trauma-informed systems that can respond effectively to the mental health and substance use challenges in our communities.

ISSUP -KENYA played a key role in this regional event, with the President Dr. Pamela Kaithuru delivering a keynote address alongside professionals and participants from across Africa.
